Riva Connections Types for GroupWise Systems

Riva On-Premise supports three connection types to GroupWise systems:

  • Enterprise Connection for GroupWise 2014: This connection uses a GroupWise trusted application key (generated in the GroupWise Admin Web Console) to grant Riva access to the target user mailbox accounts. (See Prepare for an Enterprise GroupWise 2014 Connection.)  This type of connection is used when the following conditions can be met:

    • For GroupWise 2014 only.
    • A GroupWise trusted application key can be created and assigned to the Riva connection to GroupWise, and
    • The Riva server is authenticated to the GroupWise system.

  • Enterprise Connection for Older Versions of GroupWise: This connection uses a GroupWise trusted application key to grant Riva access to the target user mailbox accounts. (See Prepare for an Enterprise GroupWise Connection.)  This type of connection is used when the following conditions can be met:

    • For GroupWise 2012, 8 or 7.
    • A GroupWise trusted application key can be created and assigned to the Riva connection to GroupWise, and
    • The Riva server is authenticated to the GroupWise system, and
    • The Riva server is authenticated to the eDirectory tree as an admin user (using a LDAP connection).

  • Direct Connection to GroupWise: This connection uses the credentials of a GroupWise account that has been assigned proxy access with full permissions to the target user GroupWise mailbox accounts. (See Prepare for a Direct GroupWise Connection.)  This type of connection is typically used when:

    • For GroupWise 2012, 8 or 7.
    • GroupWise is installed on a SLES 10 server (not in the eDirectory tree), or
    • A GroupWise trusted application key cannot be created, or
    • The Riva server cannot authenticate to the eDirectory tree using a LDAP connection.

Common System Requirements

  • Certified Messaging Systems: Minimum system requirements:

    • GroupWise 2014, or
    • GroupWise 2012, or
    • GroupWise 8.0+, or
    • GroupWise 7.0.3+
  • GroupWise Patches:

    • GroupWise 8.0.2 systems must be patched to Hot Fix 3 to prevent a known SOAP issue that can corrupt mailbox data or cause the POA service/daemon to "crash".
    • GroupWise should be patched to the latest levels.
  • Riva Connection User Account: The Riva connection to GroupWise must use the credentials of a GroupWise account with a fully enabled mailbox that meets one of the following conditions:

    • Enterprise 2014 connection - Any GroupWise 2014 user mailbox can be selected, because a GroupWise trusted application key will be used.
    • Enterprise connection - Any GroupWise user mailbox can be selected, because a GroupWise trusted application key will be used.
    • Direct connection - Specified GroupWise user mailbox with full proxy access permissions to the target user mailboxes.
  • Target User Mailbox Accounts:  Riva will sync data for GroupWise user mailbox accounts specified in the Riva sync policy. Those GroupWise user accounts must be prepared:

    • The primary Reply-to SMTP email address must match the primary email address for the corresponding CRM user account.
  • Protocols:

    • For Enterprise connections, firewalls must allow LDAP authentication (ports 389 (non-secure) or 636 (secure) between the Riva server and the eDirectory tree LDAP authentication server. (The eDirectory tree is not required for GroupWise 2014+.)
    • For both connections, firewalls must allow SOAP via HTTP or HTTPS protocols between the Riva Host system and the GroupWise server(s) configured in the Riva connections to GroupWise. (Refer to the POA settings for SOAP ports.)
