Riva Service Fails after Manual Upgrade of Riva

In some cases, if a manual update of Riva is performed by following the instructions contained in Manually upgrade Riva, corresponding Riva services may fail to restart, in which case they display an error similar to this one:

This error window is reporting that the Riva CRM Agent service cannot find the service executable file at the configured path.


When Riva is manually updated, the \Riva\Application\<Version> path is reset to \Riva\Application\Base. If the steps to reinstall the service are not followed, then the path configured for the Riva service from the previous Riva installation no longer exists.

Corrective Action

To reinstall the affected services:

  1. In the Riva Manager application, in the top left corner, double-click the Riva logo.

  2. In the About Riva window that appears, in the top right corner, double-click the release version number.

    Windows Explorer displays the contents of the currently installed folder for Riva.

  3. Open a CMD prompt window running as administrator.

  4. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the \Riva\Application\Base folder. Drag and drop the applicable service executable file to the CMD prompt window. At the end of the command line, enter " -reinstall" (without the quotation marks), and press ENTER.

    The correct executable for each Riva service is:

    • Omni.Riva.CrmAgentEx.exe: Riva CRM Agent for Exchange, used by the Riva On-Premise server;
    • Omni.Riva.CrmAgent.exe: Riva CRM Agent for GroupWise, used by the Riva On-Premise server;
    • Omni.Riva.IIAgent.exe: Riva Identity Integration Service, used by the Riva Identity Integration (GroupWise for Active Directory); and
    • Omni.Riva.Monitor.exe: Riva Event Monitor, used by the Riva Managed Application - Secure Distribution Lists
