Does Outlook 2003 Profile Cached Mode Need to Be Disabled for Target User Outlook Profiles?

Question: For Riva On-Premise for Exchange, if the Exchange 2003 MAPI connection uses an Outlook profile, it must have 'Cached Mode' disabled. Does that mean that 'Cached Mode' must be disabled for all users?

Answer: No. This restriction applies only when configuring the master connection between Riva On-Premise and Exchange 2003 using an account with the profile method. Cached Exchange mode is fully supported for Outlook client connections.

The only Outlook Profile that should not be in caching mode is the Outlook Profile on the Riva server used by the Riva Exchange 2003 connection. If the Riva Exchange 2003 connection is configured with the 'Direct' connection option instead of 'Profile', the caching settings on the Outlook Profile have no effect. The reason we do not want the profile in caching mode is that we want a "direct" connection to the Exchange server. We do not want to sync against a potentially dirty local cache.

How each end-user desktop is configured has no effect on Riva itself, because we do not install or distribute any desktop software. I am quite sure that Microsoft recommends all users to run their Outlook profiles in caching mode by default, as performance and scalability are improved.
