EMU and Space Restriction on OES/Linux NSS Volumes

Article ID: 490

A customer reported that he moved user home directories to NSS volumes hosted on an OES2/Linus server.  He is no longer able to set and enforce volume space limits or directory space restrictions using EMU.

Explanation

NSS volumes hosted on OES/Linux do not support standard Novell volume space limits or directory space restrictions because native linux partitions cannot support it.

Novell has implemented management of NSS on OES/Linux using "Space quotas" configured in iManager.  The ability to set enforceable limits in on OES/Linus NSS volumes is not supported through the Novell Admin API that EMU uses.  Effectively, space restriction for NSS volumes hosted on OES/Linux must be managed with the appropriate Novell provided tools.

EMU still supports space restrictions for NSS volumes hosted on NetWare servers.

Please refer to the following Novell online documentation:
OES 2 SP3: NSS File System Administration - Managing Space Quotas for Volumes, Directories and Users

Applies to

  • All versions of EMU
  • OES/Linux hosted NSS Volumes
