Question: Is it possible to search an entire TREE or TREES for duplicate IDs for students and append a unique identifier for the duplicate ID, that should belong to a different student?
Answer: There are two stages during the create process (and a third option) at which you can check for duplicate IDs:
- In the form where you configure the NDS account naming convention, you can check the "Check naming convention for duplicates" option. This will take you to the next screen to identify in which containers you want to check for duplicates. This option will only check, of course, for the names that were dragged into the container to be created during this create session.
- After you select the CREATE button, it will ask you if you want to check for duplicates and ask you where you want to check for duplicates. If you don't check, and the home directory already existed (based on the home directory being created in the same parent container), or if a GroupWise account already existed, EMU will create the user account (because it is unique in the container and therefore doesn't conflict, but it will not create the home directory or GroupWise account because they will already exist.
The third option to check for duplicate accounts is to select Tools/Reports/Duplicate NDS Accounts. This option will only work within the same tree. It will report the duplicate accounts in the entire tree.
