Overview - Use EMU to Move Users

EMU can be used to bulk move user accounts from one OU container to another OU container and the corresponding home directories from one server to another server.  EMU cannot be used to move GroupWise accounts.

The recommended procedures to move users within the same eDirectory/NDS tree are:

  1. Use EMU to move user accounts to a new OU container.
  2. Use EMU to copy home directories to a new server and link the directories to the moved users.
  3. Use Console One to move GroupWise accounts to a different PO on a different server (if required).

Move Home Directories to a New Server

EMU does not "move" home directories.  It copies the home directories to the new location (on the same volume, a different volume, in the same or different tree) and maintains the file system Trustee Assignments.  Before copying files, there is an  option to select to create a batch file that can be used to remove the original home directory folders.  This ensures that administrators can preserve original home directories and files until they are satisfied that the "move" was successful.

To

move home directories

to a new server (or a different location on the same server):

  1. Locate and highlight the user(s) in the "NDS Information" pane, and right-click.

  3. Select the "Home Directory" tab and the "Copy Home Dir" button.
  4. (Optional) In the "Copy Dir" detail page, select "Generate a batch file to delete original home directories" and specify the name of the file.  After the home directories are copied to the new location, you can use this batch file to flag and delete the original home directories that were copied.

  6. In the "Directory Location" window, navigate and select the target folder on the new (or same) server.
