Retirement of RBAC Application Impersonation in Exchange Online

On February 20th, 2024 - Microsoft announced that they will be blocking the new assignment of the ApplicationImpersonation role in Exchange Online to accounts starting in May 2024 and discontinuing its use in February 2025.

April 20th, 2024 - Update:

Our development team continues to work on creating a new connection option to accommodate the retirement of the Application Impersonation role. 

We expect to have this new connection option available to customers in all data centers by the end of May 2024.

If you're not able to wait until our public release, contact us and we can work with you to create a new connection. 

 

Who is impacted?

  • Any Exchange Online customers making new assignments, using the ApplicationImpersonation role after May 2024.
    • Existing role assignments will continue to work until February 2025.

How will Roles be set after May 2024?

  • Work is underway to align the Riva Cloud Exchange Online connection setup workflow with the retirement of ApplicationImpersonation . Our expected release date is the end of May 2024  but bookmark this page or contact us as it will be updated as new information becomes available.

What do I need to do?

  • If you’re using Riva Cloud, contact us and we can work with you after May 2024 to setup your Exchange Online connection.
  • If you’re using Riva on Premise, contact us and we can work with you to determine if you are impacted and help update your Exchange Online connection if required.
