Article ID: 146
Last updated: 14 Oct, 2010

Background:  Administrators can use EMU to locate users in eDirectory based on a .CSV file that is produced by another system, like a student management system.  The .CSV file must identify the user by their login name (user name) or by the full context name of the account, e.g. .cn=imsample.ou=sales.o=omni

How to select existing eDirectory users from a file:

  1. In EMU, select "Tools" and "Account Search Based On Data File".
  2. For "Step 1" click the "Select" button, browse and select the desired .CSV file.  The table below the "Location: text box should populate with information from the selected .CSV file.
  3. For "Step 2" select the appropriate column from the .CSV file as the "Identifier Field:" from the drop-down list.  Ensure that you select either the field that will match to the eDirectory login name or the full context name for the account (e.g. ".cn=imsample.ou=sales.o=omni").
  4. For "Select the eDirectory comparison field" choose "Distinguished Name" if the "Identifier Field" selected in step 3 identifies the full context name of the account

    OR

Select "User Name" from the drop-down list if the "Identifier Field" selected inn step 3 above matches the account login name.
  5. Click "Next".
  6. Select the tree or top level container to start the search from.
  7. Take note of the duplicate names and names not found lists and then click the "Continue" button.
  8. Users located will appear in the "Report Information" pane.

You can then right-click one or more accounts from the "Report Information" pane list and choose "Select in NDS View" and EMU will highlight the user accounts in the "NDS Information" tree-view pane.   You can then right-click the highlighted users and select one of the following options:

  • Export Account Information
  • Delete Account(s)
  • Modify Account(s)
  • Modify Account(s) from File
  • Move Account(s) to New Container
